Alice and I watched together an anime movie called “The Wind Rises” we discussed a lot of things during the movie, life in Japan between World Wars, current day life in Japan, Japan’s involvement in wars, the timeline other wars such as the Cold War She felt sorry for the Japanese people because she was sure not all of them wanted to be at war. she was very interested in their lack of technology (in the movie the aeronautical engineer is sent to Germany to learn about more advanced aviation technology) We discussed how Japanese has limited natural resources and that’s probably why they focussed on developing technology to advanced their country Alice had a good understand of how the World Wars started and who was involved, how war can speed up technological advancements, and a better understanding of the world timeline of when different wars occurred she also thinks that Japan seems like a very peaceful country now despite their involvement in wars in the past. she would like to visit Japan one day which might be challenging she thinks because Alice doesn’t like to eat rice Alice has a very strong interest in manga and anime art styles, so we continue to explore that through her visual art practise, as well for her English she is engaged in reading manga comics. she continues learning about Japanese culture and life in Japan. Alice is writing her own manga style comic for English Alice has been learning about the structure of stories and how to make the engaging to the audience alice has been using the technique of story mountains to create climaxes and resolutions in her story yes she can see the impact and can recognise this technique in the stories she is reading when Alice has finished her comic she would like to publish is on a webcomic app (that she reads other comics from) to get feedback from her audience understanding that she is learning so it takes time to develop a following and that you need to keep listening to feedback of how to improve discussing that feedback with trusted adults open positive discussions
