Core Skills Analysis
Language Arts
Nathan practiced important language arts skills by discussing the story lines and characters in Stranger Things and by predicting what would happen next. He showed comprehension by asking and answering questions about what was going on, which helped him think about plot, character motivation, and cause and effect in a story. This kind of discussion strengthened his ability to make inferences from limited information and to explain ideas using evidence from the show. Nathan also developed oral communication skills as he talked through his thoughts and responded to the story’s events in a meaningful way.
Tips
To extend Nathan’s understanding, try having him compare two characters and explain how their choices changed the story. He could also make a simple prediction chart with columns for “What happened,” “What I think will happen next,” and “Why I think that,” which would build stronger evidence-based thinking. Another good extension would be to have him retell one episode or scene in his own words, focusing on the beginning, middle, and end to support narrative structure. For a creative challenge, Nathan could write or say an alternate ending to a scene and explain how it would change the characters’ reactions.
