Physical Education
Cillian used his body in many different ways while exploring the bay, swimming, and playing in the waves. He practiced gross motor skills such as balancing in moving water, coordinating arm and leg movements while swimming, and adjusting his body to the push and pull of the waves. He also built endurance, spatial awareness, and body control by moving safely through the ocean environment and staying active for an extended time.
Science
Cillian observed living creatures up close when he caught hermit crabs at the bay. He learned that animals live in specific habitats and that ocean shore environments contain small animals that can be found, handled carefully, and released or studied. By noticing the waves, water, and shoreline, he also explored natural changes in an outdoor environment and saw how living things and water habitats are connected.
Field Trip
Cillian’s trip to the ocean gave him a real-world learning experience beyond the classroom. He explored a bay, interacted with natural features like the waves and shoreline, and collected direct observations from the environment. This kind of field trip helped him practice curiosity, safe exploration, and noticing details in a place that is different from everyday indoor learning.
Tips
To extend Cillian’s learning, invite him to draw a picture of the bay and label what he saw, including the hermit crabs, waves, and swimming area. You could also compare ocean water and still water with a simple observation chart, asking what moved, what stayed the same, and how the waves changed the water. A short oral recount or dictated sentence about his favorite part of the trip would strengthen language and memory skills. For a hands-on follow-up, make a pretend tide pool scene with shells, rocks, and toy crabs so he can sort, count, and describe what belongs in that habitat.
