Core Skills Analysis
Language Arts and Communication
Chelsea practiced effective communication by chatting online with Kiera and speaking on the phone with Skyla and Summer. She also communicated creatively through a song and dance routine that she helped create and performed for an audience. These experiences developed her ability to express ideas, participate in conversations, and adapt communication to social, spoken, and performance settings.
Performing Arts
Chelsea helped create and perform a song-and-dance routine with Summer for Alyssa’s birthday. Performing in front of approximately 50 people required preparation, memory, coordination, rhythm, and expressive movement. Her participation showed courage and confidence while giving her practical experience in presenting creative work to an audience.
Home Economics and Practical Skills
Chelsea contributed to party preparation by preparing food, baking and decorating cupcakes, packing up, and completing other jobs throughout the evening. These tasks developed practical skills such as following steps, organizing materials, cooperating with others, and completing responsibilities during a busy event. Her help demonstrated that she could make useful contributions to a shared household or community activity.
Science and Animal Care
Chelsea helped prepare a suitable space for Nutsy the Galah and interacted with the bird through play and care. She also placed a blanket over Nutsy at bedtime, practicing gentle handling and attention to an animal’s comfort and routine. This experience introduced responsibility for a living creature and encouraged observation of animal needs and behavior.
Social and Emotional Learning
Chelsea built and maintained friendships by welcoming new connections, spending time with Summer, and communicating with Kiera, Skyla, and others. Performing publicly showed bravery, while helping at the party and caring for Nutsy showed cooperation, responsibility, and empathy. Her actions suggested growing confidence in social situations and willingness to participate actively in group and family experiences.
Tips
Tips: Turn Chelsea’s performance into a mini project by having her write a short reflection about how she prepared, what felt challenging, and what she was proud of. She could create a simple party-planning checklist and budget, including food, decorations, responsibilities, and cleanup. For animal science, Chelsea could keep a brief observation journal about Nutsy’s routines, behaviors, and signs of comfort, using drawings or time-stamped notes. Finally, she could interview a friend about collaborative performances and compare how teamwork helped both people contribute.
