Core Skills Analysis
Language Arts: Grammar
Cyas learned about the subject matter of a sentence and how to identify it. This helped Cyas recognize that the subject tells whom or what a sentence is about. By practicing identification, Cyas strengthened grammar awareness and learned to examine how words work together to communicate a complete idea.
Tips
Tips
To extend Cyas’s learning, try a sentence hunt in a favorite story: read a few sentences together and ask whom or what each one is about. Next, have Cyas create silly sentences about a familiar object or character, then highlight each subject in a different color. You could also use picture cards as prompts for making sentences, or play a quick oral game in which one person says a sentence and the other identifies its subject.
