Core Skills Analysis
Mathematics
Kelby watched a seven-minute video for Saxon Intermediate 5, Lesson 15, and completed the lesson. Kelby practiced single-digit multiplication and multi-digit subtraction, working with both basic multiplication facts and larger subtraction problems. Kelby also worked on finding missing variables, using the information in a problem to determine an unknown value. Together, these activities strengthened Kelby’s calculation skills and understanding of how unknown numbers can be represented and solved.
Keyboarding
Kelby practiced typing with a lesson focused on the problem fingers B, T, L, and O. The activity gave Kelby practice locating and entering these letters on the keyboard. This kind of focused typing work helped build familiarity with key positions and supported accuracy and finger coordination.
Language Arts
Kelby completed Writing Lesson 1 in Grammar and Writing 4, which focused on combining sentences and using active voice. Kelby practiced bringing related ideas together into clearer, more connected sentences. The lesson also introduced or reinforced active voice, in which the sentence’s subject performs the action. These skills helped Kelby develop more direct, fluent writing.
Tips
Tips Extend the math work by having Kelby create a short set of multiplication, subtraction, and missing-variable problems, then explain how each answer was found. For a practical connection, use everyday quantities—such as objects in equal groups or a simple shopping total—to make multiplication and subtraction meaningful. Continue keyboarding with brief, regular practice that revisits B, T, L, and O in words and short sentences. For writing, invite Kelby to combine a few related short sentences into a paragraph, then revise passive-sounding sentences into active voice and read the result aloud to hear how the changes affect clarity.
