Activity: "Making a Cake"
Math
- Measuring ingredients using fractions and decimals
- Scaling a recipe to adjust for different serving sizes
- Understanding temperature conversions for baking
- Estimating cooking time based on the recipe
For continued development, encourage the child to experiment with different recipes and variations of the cake. They can try doubling or halving the recipe to practice scaling, or explore different baking methods to understand temperature conversions. They can also create their own recipes and calculate ingredient measurements accordingly. Additionally, encourage them to explore the math behind cake decorating, such as calculating the circumference of a cake to determine the amount of frosting needed.
