English Language Arts
- Aiza has learned about three types of sentences: Simple, Compound, and Complex.
- She understands that a Simple Sentence contains one main clause and makes sense on its own.
- Aiza can provide examples of Simple Sentences such as "I jumped into the water" and "I like meeting my family".
- She knows that a Compound Sentence has two or more main clauses joined by a coordinating conjunction like "but", "or", and "and". She also understands the use of a comma before "but" and "or".
- Aiza can provide examples of Compound Sentences like "My friend hates healthy food, but loves sweets a lot", "You can do computing, or watch Youtube Kids", and "I ate paratha and I scooped up cream with it".
- She has learned that a Complex Sentence consists of a main clause and a subordinate clause, and the subordinate clause does not make sense on its own.
- Aiza understands that subordinating conjunctions like "when", "as", and "because" are used to join a main clause to a subordinate clause.
- She can provide examples of Complex Sentences such as "As I approached my room, I saw a disgusting mouse on the floor", "When night falls, the stars glisten like silver dust in the inky black sky", and "Mohammed did not want to eat chicken because it was spicy".
Aiza can continue developing her understanding of sentence types by practicing writing more examples of Simple, Compound, and Complex Sentences. She can also try creating sentences that combine different types of sentences to add variety to her writing. Encouraging her to read books that contain a mix of sentence structures will also help reinforce her understanding.
