English Language Arts
- Aiza has learned about three types of sentences: simple, compound, and complex. She understands that a simple sentence consists of one main clause and makes sense on its own. Her examples of simple sentences include "I jumped into the water" and "I like meeting my family."
- Aiza has also learned about compound sentences, which have two or more main clauses joined by coordinating conjunctions such as "but," "or," and "and." She knows to use a comma before "but" and "or." Her examples of compound sentences include "My friend hates healthy food, but loves sweets a lot," "You can do computing, or watch Youtube Kids," and "I ate paratha and I scooped up cream with it."
- Furthermore, Aiza has learned about complex sentences, which consist of a main clause and a subordinate clause. She understands that the subordinate clause does not make sense on its own and needs a main clause to provide context. Aiza knows that subordinating conjunctions like "when," "as," and "because" are used to join the main and subordinate clause. Her examples of complex sentences include "As I approached my room, I saw a disgusting mouse on the floor," "When night falls, the stars glisten like silver dust in the inky black sky," and "Mohammed did not want to eat chicken because it was spicy."
For continued development, Aiza can practice identifying different types of sentences in her everyday reading or writing. She can look for examples of simple, compound, and complex sentences in books, articles, or even in conversations with others. Aiza can also try writing her own sentences using each type to reinforce her understanding.
