Jordan suddenly became interested in morse code and wanted to have a go at using it. We researched the different ways the code was represented - some showing the code in alphabetical order and others were in the order of dashes or dots. Jordan was given the exercise to learn and memorise how to do a word of his choice in morse cod and then his teacher would have to try to decipher it. His teacher did the same and so then it was Jordan's turn to decipher it. Jordan made up an electric circuit that enabled him to use it do morse code code on it. This also had a light that went on and off. We realised that morse code could be in the form of a sound or a light going on and off at different intervals acording to the dot or dash code. Jordan then decided to get the walkie talkies and to use them as a means of doing morse code. While doing this he accidently got onto a channel that was being used. We then looked at other forms of code suh a semophore. he thought that he might make some flags next when he does some sewing. Semophore was a little bit harder to reproduce as you had to make sure you had the flags the right way round etc. We talked about how morse code and semophore is often used in the war and aviation. When studying in history about the telegraph poles being put up in Australia as a means of communication - morse code also came up.
