English Language Arts

• The 5-6 year old student has learned to recognize and write upper and lower case letters through engaging activities such as tracing the letters in sand or using alphabet flashcards. They can also identify beginning and ending sounds of simple words.
• They have developed a basic understanding of phonics, able to identify and produce rhyming words in a fun and interactive manner, such as playing rhyming word games or singing nursery rhymes with repetitive patterns.
• Through storytelling and shared reading experiences, the child has shown an increased comprehension of story structure, characters, and main ideas. They can also retell a simple story using pictures or props to support their understanding.
• The student has begun to develop early writing skills by forming simple sentences with basic punctuation and using context and pictures to generate ideas for writing.

For continued development, encourage the child to engage in daily reading through storybooks and encourage them to participate in creating their own stories. Incorporate activities that stimulate their imagination and foster creativity, such as writing and illustrating their own short stories or using alphabet puzzles to reinforce letter recognition and phonics skills.
