Early Life and Education

Kamala Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. As a child, she was always curious and loved to learn. She attended Howard University, where she studied political science and economics. Later, she went to law school at the University of California, Hastings, where she became a lawyer.

Career as a Lawyer

After finishing school, Kamala worked as a lawyer. She became a District Attorney, which means she helped prosecute people accused of crimes. She worked hard to make her community safer and to support those in need.

Becoming a U.S. Senator

In 2017, Kamala Harris became a United States Senator from California. As a senator, she worked on important issues like health care, education, and immigration. She was the first woman of South Asian and African American descent to hold this position!

Vice Presidency

In November 2020, Kamala Harris made history again when she was elected as Vice President of the United States, becoming the first woman and the first person of Black and Asian descent to hold this office. She took office on January 20, 2021, and continued to work on making positive changes for all Americans.
