What is the Diaphragm?

The diaphragm is a special muscle that is shaped like a dome, and it sits at the bottom part of your chest, right under your lungs.

How Do We Breathe?

When you want to take a big breath in, your diaphragm does something amazing!

  • First, the diaphragm moves down. This makes more space in your chest.
  • Then, when there’s more space, your lungs can fill up with air.

What Happens When We Breathe Out?

After you take in air, when it's time to breathe out, the diaphragm moves back up into its dome shape. This helps push the air out of your lungs!

Why is the Diaphragm Important?

The diaphragm is very important because it helps us breathe. Breathing gives us the oxygen we need to play, think, and grow strong!

Fun Fact!

Every time you breathe in, the diaphragm works like a big balloon, helping us enjoy all our favorite things!
