How a Chick Hatches from an Egg

First, let's imagine a hen, which is a bird. The hen has a special job - she lays eggs! When the hen lays an egg, it is like a little home for a baby chick. The egg has a hard shell on the outside, but inside, there is a tiny chick that is growing.

When the chick is ready to come out, it will use its little beak to peck at the inside of the egg. This is called 'hatching'. The chick pecks and pecks until it makes a small hole in the egg. It keeps working hard and pecking until it breaks the egg open!

Once the egg is broken, the chick comes out. It might be a little wet and tired, but that’s okay! The chick is now ready to live with its mom, the hen. Isn’t it amazing how a baby chick comes from an egg?
