Once upon a time, a very long time ago in a place called China, people wanted to find a way to write things down. They tried lots of different things! At first, they used animal bones and turtle shells. But then, around 105 A.D., a clever man named Cai Lun made something new: paper!

Cai Lun used materials like tree bark, hemp, and old rags to create soft sheets that were easier to write on. This was a bit like making a special kind of craft. He mixed the materials with water and then pressed them down to make thin sheets that dried in the sun.

After that, everyone thought it was a great idea! Soon, people all around China started using paper. It spread to other places, and now, we are lucky because we have many kinds of paper that we use for books, letters, and even wrapping our gifts!

So next time you write or draw on paper, remember how special it is and how it started with a very smart man a long time ago!
