What is the 'S' Rule?

The 'S' rule is a special way to remember how we make some words show more than one thing, like when we want to talk about more than one toy or more than one cat!

Step 1: Adding 'S'

When we want to say there are two or more of something, we usually add an 'S' to the end of the word. For example:

  • One cat = cats (two or more cats)
  • One dog = dogs (two or more dogs)
  • One toy = toys (two or more toys)

This helps people know we're talking about more than one!

Step 2: Exceptions

But guess what? Some words are a little different! They don’t just add an 'S'. Here are some examples:

  • One mouse = mice (not mouses)
  • One tooth = teeth (not tooths)

These words change a bit, and we have to remember them!

Step 3: Practice Makes Perfect

Let’s practice! How about you try to say these words in the plural? Just add an 'S' to the end of the words:

  • One frog = ______
  • One butterfly = ______
  • One book = ______

And when you’re done, share your answers!

Conclusion

Now you know about the 'S' rule! It's a fun trick to help us talk about more than one of our favorite things. Keep practicing, and you'll be a pro at using the 'S' rule in no time!
