What is Photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis is the way plants make their own food. They don’t eat like we do. Instead, they use sunlight, water, and air to create food and grow.

How Does It Work?

  1. Sunlight: Plants use their leaves to catch sunlight. The green color in leaves, called chlorophyll, helps them absorb sunlight.
  2. Water: Plants get water from the soil through their roots.
  3. Carbon Dioxide: This is a gas in the air that plants breathe in through tiny holes in their leaves called stomata.

The Process:

Inside the leaves, the plant uses sunlight energy to mix water and carbon dioxide together to make a type of sugar (this is the food) and oxygen (which plants release into the air).

Why is Photosynthesis Important?

Photosynthesis helps plants grow and produce oxygen, which all animals and people need to breathe. So, plants are very important for life on Earth!

Summary

Plants use sunlight, water, and air to make food through photosynthesis. They take in sunlight and carbon dioxide, mix it with water, and produce food and oxygen. This process not only feeds the plant but also gives us oxygen to breathe.
