The savannah is a big grassland where there are lots of trees, grass, water, and sunlight. But even if plants and animals have water and sunshine, living in the savannah can be tough because it only rains for about half the year. That means sometimes there is a lot of water, but other times there is very little.
Because of this, plants and animals need to be very smart:
- Plants: They might have deep roots to reach underground water when the rain stops. Some plants store water inside their stems or leaves, like cactuses do.
- Animals: Animals have to find ways to stay cool and save water. Some animals move to places with water when it gets dry. Others sleep during the hottest part of the day or only come out at night.
Being smart means they find ways to live well even when the rain doesn’t come. This cleverness helps them survive and grow in the savannah.
