The savannah is a special place where there are trees, grass, water, and lots of animals. It gets plenty of sunlight, which plants need to grow. But one tricky thing about the savannah is that it only rains for part of the year — about half the year! This means water is not always easy to find.

Because of this, both plants and animals have to be very smart to survive. Let me explain how:

  • Plants: Some plants have deep roots that reach very far underground to find water even when it doesn’t rain. Others can store water inside their leaves, stems, or trunks, so they don’t dry out during the dry months.
  • Animals: Animals in the savannah know where to find water and how to protect themselves from getting too hot or thirsty. Some animals come out only during cooler times of the day, like early morning or evening, to save energy and water. Others can get water from the food they eat!

So, even though the savannah looks sunny and bright, plants and animals have to be clever and use special tricks to live there since the rains only come half the year.
