The tundra is a very cold place, usually found near the North Pole. For most of the year, it is frozen and covered with snow and ice. But during the summertime, something special happens: the tundra starts to warm up!

Even though it gets warmer, the tundra summer is still quite cool compared to other places. The sun shines almost all day long, which helps melt the snow and ice. When this happens, the ground turns soft and plants like mosses, grasses, and small flowers begin to grow. This short and cool summer is very important because animals like reindeer, birds, and arctic foxes come to live, eat, and have baby animals.

So, in tundra summers, the cold land wakes up just a little bit, and life returns for a short time before winter comes back again.
