How Snow Monkeys Stay Warm in Winter

Snow monkeys, also called Japanese macaques, live in very cold places where lots of snow falls in winter. It can get really, really cold! To stay warm, these clever monkeys do something special — they use hot springs.

What are hot springs? Hot springs are natural pools of warm water that come from under the ground. The water is heated by the earth, so it stays warm even when it’s freezing outside.

How do the monkeys use the hot springs? The snow monkeys will sit together in the warm water of the hot springs to keep their bodies from getting too cold. They like to soak in the warm water, almost like taking a hot bath, which helps them stay cozy during the chilly winter days.

This behavior is special because not many wild animals use hot springs like this to stay warm. The snow monkeys are very smart and have found a great way to be comfortable and survive the cold weather!

Isn't it cool that animals can use nature’s warm pools to keep warm, just like we use a heated bath?
