An oryx is a big, beautiful animal that lives in deserts and grasslands. When an oryx baby, called a calf, is born, it doesn’t have long horns yet. But as it grows up, its horns start to grow longer and longer.

The horn growth happens little by little every year, just like how you grow taller. Soon, the oryx calf’s horns become just as long as the other adult oryxes in the herd. This helps the oryx be strong and protect itself.

So, when you see a young oryx, imagine its horns getting longer every day until they are big and pointy like the grown-up oryxes!
