Echidnas are small animals covered with sharp spines, kind of like a porcupine. When danger comes, like forest fires or animals that want to eat them, echidnas have a clever way to stay safe.

They dig quickly into the ground using their strong claws. As they burrow, almost their whole body goes underground, except their spiky back. This way, they hide from danger but keep their sharp spines sticking out. The spines protect them by making it hard for predators to reach or hurt them.

This digging also helps echidnas stay safe from fires because the soil is cooler under the surface. So by hiding underground with only their spines showing, echidnas protect themselves from both animals and natural dangers like fire.
