Echidnas have a very clever way of protecting themselves when danger is near, especially from forest fires and animals that might want to eat them.

When an echidna senses danger, it uses its strong claws to dig quickly into the ground. It buries most of its body underground, but leaves its sharp spines sticking out. These spines work like a shield because they make it hard for predators to bite or touch the echidna without getting hurt.

This hiding trick also helps echidnas during forest fires. By digging into the cooler soil, they stay safe from the hot flames above.

So, echidnas stay safe by digging themselves up to their spines into the ground, protecting themselves with their sharp spines while being hidden below the surface!
