What are Socratic Questions?

Socratic questions are special questions that help you think more carefully and understand things better. They are named after a very wise person named Socrates who asked lots of questions to help his friends learn.

How Can We Use Socratic Questions?

Imagine you're playing and you want to understand why something happened. Instead of just guessing, you can ask questions like:

  • Why do you think that? – This helps you find out why someone believes something.
  • What do you mean? – This helps make sure you understand what someone is saying.
  • Can you tell me more? – This helps you learn more details.
  • How do you know? – This helps you find out where information comes from.
  • What happens if...? – This helps you think about what might happen next.

Why Are Socratic Questions Important?

They help you be curious and think about things instead of just accepting them. Asking questions helps you learn better and solve problems like a little detective!

Example:

If you see that a plant is wilting, instead of saying, "The plant is sad," you can ask yourself or others:

  • Why is the plant wilting?
  • Has it had enough water?
  • Where is the plant getting sunlight?
  • What can we do to help the plant?

By asking these questions, you learn how to take care of the plant better.

Remember, asking questions is a superpower for your brain!
