Hi there! Have you ever wondered why many small dogs wear little jackets or sweaters? 🐶 Well, it’s because of something called an undercoat that some dogs have, and others don’t.
Think about your own clothes. Sometimes you wear a warm sweater underneath your jacket to keep cozy when it's cold outside. Dogs also have something like that – their fur has two layers:
- Topcoat: This is the outside fur you see.
- Undercoat: This is the soft, thick fur right underneath, like a warm blanket that keeps dogs warm.
Big dogs or dogs that live in cold places usually have a thick undercoat. But many small dogs don’t have much of this soft fur. That means they can get cold easily when the weather is chilly.
So, to help keep them warm and comfy, some little dogs wear warm clothes, like jackets or sweaters, just like you might wear on a cold day. That way, they don't shiver and can enjoy playing outside comfortably!
Isn't it cool how dogs have different kinds of fur? And now you know why small dogs sometimes need extra help to stay warm!
