Madagascar's Prickly Forests and the Octopus Tree
Madagascar is a big island far away where the trees and plants are very special. Some parts of Madagascar are very dry, which means they don't get much rain. To live in these dry places, the trees have to be very strong and smart!
One kind of forest in Madagascar is called a prickly forest. The word "prickly" means the trees have little sharp points, like tiny thorns, to protect themselves.
There is a cool tree called the octopus tree. It is called that because its branches spread out like the arms of an octopus! This special tree can save water inside its thick branches so it doesn't get thirsty when it’s dry outside.
So, the prickly forests with trees like the octopus tree help plants live happily in places where it is hot and dry.
