What are Dry Grasslands?

Dry grasslands are big open areas full of grass but very few trees. These places don't get much rain, so the ground can be dry.

The Great Steppe of Eurasia

The Great Steppe is a huge grassland that stretches across parts of Europe and Asia. It is very big and mostly covered with grass. Because it doesn’t rain much, there aren’t many trees.

American Prairies

Prairies are grasslands found in North America. They look like giant fields filled with tall grasses but very few trees because of the dry weather.

What Is the Weather Like?

  • Very little rain: This means grass grows, but not many trees because trees need more water.
  • Strong dry winds: The wind blows hard and can dry out the land even more.
  • Sandstorms: Sometimes, the wind blows the dry soil and sand around, creating sandstorms.

Why Are They Important?

Even if it is dry and windy, many animals live in these grasslands, such as bison, birds, and insects. The grass helps keep the soil healthy. People also use these lands for farming and grazing animals.

So like a huge outdoor meadow with very few trees and a lot of grass, dry grasslands are special places that help many plants and animals live.
