Welcome to the Wonderful World of Ocean Animals!

The ocean is a big, salty place filled with many amazing animals like fish, crabs, whales, and even tiny creatures you can’t see without a microscope. Because the ocean water is salty, these animals need special ways to live happily and stay healthy.

Why is Ocean Water Salty?

Ocean water gets salty from tiny bits of rocks and minerals washing into it from rivers and rain. Over time, the salt stays in the ocean, making it different from fresh water like the water you drink or find in lakes.

How Do Ocean Animals Live in Salty Water?

  • Special Body Parts: Fish have special gills that help them keep the right amount of salt and water inside their bodies so they don’t get too salty or lose too much water.
  • Drinking and Peeing: Sea turtles and some fish drink the salty seawater and use special organs to get rid of extra salt through their bodies.
  • Staying Cool and Safe: Some animals, like crabs, live in salty water but can also go to less salty places like tidal pools where they can rest.

Fun Fact!

Did you know that whales and dolphins breathe air just like we do, but they live in the ocean? They come up to the surface to breathe and then dive back underwater to swim and hunt for food.

So, the ocean might be salty, but with their amazing adaptations, ocean animals have found great ways to live comfortably and thrive in their salty home!
