Plants need food to grow, just like you need to eat. But plants don’t eat like us — they get their food from the water and nutrients in the soil. The roots are like little straws under the ground that suck up water and special food called nutrients from the soil. Then, the water and nutrients travel up the plant to the leaves and help the plant grow big and strong. So, plants get nutrients by drinking water through their roots!
