Hey there! Let me tell you a cool story about a bird called the sandgrouse.

The male sandgrouse has special feathers on his belly. These feathers are very different from regular feathers because they have extra parts called barbules, which help hold a lot of water—more than a sponge you use to clean up!

In the hot summer, the male sandgrouse walks into a pond or waterhole and dips his belly feathers into the water. He moves a lot to soak up as much water as he can—sometimes more than 20 milliliters, which is like a few drops from a small bottle.

Then, the bird flies back to his babies in the nest. The baby sandgrouse drink the water right from his wet feathers, kind of like how kittens drink milk from their mother. This way, even if there’s no water near the babies, they can still get a drink!

Isn’t that amazing? The male sandgrouse helps take care of his babies by carrying water in his feathers!
