What are Forces?

Forces are pushes or pulls that can make things move, stop, or change shape. For example, when you push a door to open it, you're using force.

Balanced Forces

Balanced forces happen when two forces acting on an object are equal in size but act in opposite directions. When forces are balanced, the object does not change its motion. It either stays still or keeps moving at the same speed and in the same direction.

Example: Imagine a game of tug-of-war where both teams pull with the same strength. The rope doesn’t move because the forces are balanced.

Unbalanced Forces

Unbalanced forces occur when two forces acting on an object are not equal. This means one force is stronger than the other, causing the object to move, speed up, slow down, or change direction.

Example: If in tug-of-war one team pulls harder than the other, the rope moves toward the stronger team because the forces are unbalanced.

Summary:

  • Balanced forces = no change in motion.
  • Unbalanced forces = change in motion.

Understanding these helps explain why things move or stay still in our everyday life!
