Penguins are amazing birds who live in very cold places. When it’s time for penguin parents to have a baby, the mother penguin lays an egg. But instead of sitting on the egg like many birds, the penguin dad has a special way to keep the egg safe and warm.

The dad gently places the egg on top of his feet. Then, he covers the egg with his soft, fluffy feathers. These feathers act like a warm blanket, protecting the egg from the freezing cold. This way, the egg stays warm enough to grow inside, even in chilly weather.

While the dad takes care of the egg, the mother penguin goes on a long trip to the ocean to catch lots of fish. She needs to get enough food for herself and for the family when the baby penguin hatches.

So, penguin moms and dads work as a team: dads keep the egg warm, and moms find food. This teamwork helps baby penguins grow strong and healthy!
