Puffins are amazing birds that live by the sea! When it's time to have babies, puffins need a safe place called a nest. They usually make their nests by digging shallow burrows in soft ground. A burrow is like a little tunnel or hole underground where the puffins can lay their eggs safely.
Sometimes, puffins don't dig their own homes. Instead, they use empty homes made by other animals like petrels (which are other sea birds) or rabbits. These old homes are already made and puffins move in to use them as their nests.
This way, puffins keep their eggs and baby birds safe from danger until they are ready to grow up and fly!
