In spring, male wood grouses want to find a mate, which means they want to get a lady wood grouse to be their partner. To do this, they do two special things:
- Fan their tails: This means they spread their tail feathers out wide, like a big, beautiful fan to look very pretty.
- Make loud noises: The males make big sounds that other birds can hear from far away.
These actions help the male wood grouses show how strong and healthy they are, so the female wood grouses notice them and want to be with them. It’s like saying hello and showing off!
