How Gardens Support Wildlife
Gardens are special places that aren't just pretty to look at—they also help animals and bugs live and grow! Here are some ways gardens support wildlife:
- Food: Flowers, plants, and trees in gardens give food to many creatures. Birds eat berries and seeds, bees and butterflies drink nectar from flowers, and some bugs eat the leaves.
- Shelter: Gardens have bushes, tall grass, and trees where animals can hide from predators and protect themselves from the weather.
- Water: Ponds, birdbaths, or even dew on leaves provide water that animals and insects need to drink.
- Nests and Homes: Some gardens have birdhouses or piles of leaves where animals can make nests or homes.
By taking care of gardens and planting native plants, we help make a safe home for lots of different animals and bugs to live happily!
