Let’s go for a walk in the woods!
Hold my hand. We walk on the path. Look up at big trees. Listen: tweet, tweet — a bird!
- Step 1: Hold hands with an adult.
- Step 2: Walk slowly on the path.
- Step 3: Look for colors — green leaves, brown tree, red berry (do not taste).
- Step 4: Listen for sounds — birds, wind, leaves crunching.
- Step 5: Touch gently — soft moss, rough bark. Do not touch mushrooms or unknown plants.
- Step 6: Find a stick or a leaf. Say its color and size.
Play a little game: "I spy" — I spy something green! Can you point?
Sing a tiny song: "Leaves are swishy, trees are tall, we walk slowly — that’s all!"
Quick caregiver notes
- Bring water, a snack, hat, sturdy shoes, wipes, and a change of clothes.
- Keep the child within arm's reach and stay on the trail.
- Watch for trip roots, puddles, and plants to avoid (remember: leaves of three, let it be).
- Use a stroller or carrier if little legs get tired.
Have fun! Look, listen, touch gently — then come home for a cozy snack.
