What is a Dentist?

A dentist is a tooth doctor. They take care of your teeth and mouth. They help keep your smile clean and healthy.

  1. Where the dentist works: In an office with a big chair. The chair can go up and down. There are bright lights and friendly people.
  2. What the dentist does: They look at your teeth with a little mirror. They count and clean your teeth. They check for any tiny holes called cavities.
  3. Tools that feel funny: The dentist uses a tiny mirror, a soft brush that tickles, and sometimes a little water to rinse. It might feel funny, but it usually does not hurt.
  4. If a tooth needs help: The dentist can fix a tooth so it does not hurt. They are very careful and gentle.
  5. Why they help: So you can eat, talk, and smile happily with strong teeth.

How you can help your teeth

  • Brush your teeth two times every day for about two minutes. Use a small toothbrush and a little toothpaste.
  • Eat crunchy fruits and veggies and try not to eat too many sweets or sugary drinks.
  • Practice opening wide like a big, friendly lion so the dentist can see all your teeth.
  • Go to the dentist for check-ups about every 6 months (or when your grown-up says).

If you feel scared, tell your mom, dad, or the dentist. They will hold your hand and help you feel brave. Dentists are your friends who take care of your smile. Smile big!
