Quick Counting in a Busy Savannah (for a 7-year-old)
Follow these easy steps to count animals quickly in a busy savannah picture:
- Look once, left to right: Give the picture one quick scan from left to right to see all animals.
- Pick one animal type at a time: Count zebras first, then elephants, then birds. This keeps things simple.
- Make groups: Put animals into small groups (pairs or groups of 3). For example, two elephants = one group of 2.
- Use fingers or tally marks: Raise a finger for each animal you count or draw short tally lines: ||| for 3, etc.
- Add up the groups: After counting each animal type, add the numbers together to get the total.
- Quick re-check: Do one fast scan again to make sure you didn’t miss any.
Short example: You see 3 zebras, 2 elephants, and 4 birds. Count: 3 + 2 + 4 = 9 animals total.
