What are emergency vehicles?

Emergency vehicles are special cars and trucks that help people. They go fast when someone needs help.

Examples

  • Fire truck — big and red. It helps put out fires.
  • Ambulance — a car that helps sick or hurt people and takes them to the hospital.
  • Police car — helps keep people safe and helps when there is trouble.

How to know one is coming

  • They flash bright lights (blue, red, or yellow).
  • They make loud siren sounds like "wee-oo" or "woo-woo."

What you should do

  1. Stop and look for a grown-up.
  2. Hold the grown-up's hand and move to the side of the road.
  3. Stay back and let the emergency vehicle go by.
  4. Do not run after or touch the vehicle.

Emergency vehicles help people — they are like helpers and heroes. You can wave from a safe place to say thank you!
