What is a Helicopter?

A helicopter is a big flying machine. It has long arms called blades on the top that go round and round. The blades make the helicopter lift up into the sky.

Easy things to know:

• Looks: It can look like a small bus with long spinning fans on top.
• Sound: It goes whirr, whirr or whoosh.
• How it moves: It can go up and down and stay still in the air like it is hovering.
• Where you see them: You might see one at the park, on TV, or at a place where helpers like police or doctors use them.

Safety: Never go close to the spinning blades. Stay with a grown-up.
