Traffic Lights

Traffic lights are big lights at streets and corners that help cars and people know what to do. They have three colors: red, yellow, and green.

What the colors mean

  • Red means STOP. Cars and people must wait. Red is like when you freeze and do not move.
  • Yellow means SLOW or GET READY. Yellow tells you to be careful and get ready to stop.
  • Green means GO. Cars and people can move when it is green.

Why traffic lights are important

Traffic lights help keep everyone safe. They make sure cars and people do not go at the same time and bump into each other.

What you should do

  • If you walk, hold a grown-up's hand at the street.
  • Look at the lights: red stop, yellow slow, green go.
  • Always look left and right before you cross, even if the light is green.

Fun practice game

Play "Red Light, Green Light." One person says the colors. Everyone moves on green, freezes on red, and walks slowly on yellow. It helps you learn the colors and what to do.

Good job! Now when you see a traffic light, you know what each color means and how it keeps you safe.
