Hello! A pilot is a grown-up who flies an airplane.
They sit at the front in a special seat called the cockpit. They have a wheel and many buttons to help the airplane go where it needs to go.
Here are easy steps to show what a pilot does:
- They check the plane and the buttons to make sure everything is safe.
- They talk to helpers on the ground and in the sky so everyone knows what to do.
- They start the engines and steer the airplane to go up into the sky.
- They watch the instruments and the sky to keep everyone safe.
- When it is time, they bring the airplane back down to the ground.
Pilots wear a uniform and sometimes a hat. They practice a lot and work with other helpers called co-pilots and air traffic controllers.
Quick activity: Pretend-play being a pilot — sit on a chair, hold a pretend wheel, say "Ready for takeoff!" and gently move the chair like the airplane is flying.
That is a pilot!
