What is a train driver?

A train driver is a grown-up who makes the train go. They sit in the front in a little room called the cab.

What does the train driver do?

  • Makes the train go and makes the train stop.
  • Presses buttons and levers to control the train.
  • Blows the horn so people know the train is coming. (Choo‑choo!)
  • Helps keep all the people on the train safe.
  • Sometimes wears a nice hat and a uniform.

Listen and look

You can hear a train driver when you hear the horn or the train saying choo‑choo. You can see them in the front window waving.

Fun pretend play

  1. Sit down and pretend you are in the front of a train.
  2. Say choo‑choo and pretend to press buttons.
  3. Wave when you pass friends or a station.

That is what a train driver does. They help the train go and keep everyone safe.
