Sleepy City Clean-Up Crew

Hi! You are the Sleepy City Clean-Up Crew — helpers who wake the city up and make it tidy, safe, and happy. Let’s learn what the crew does and how you can help, one easy step at a time.

Who is the Clean-Up Crew?

The crew is a team of people (and maybe kids like you) who pick up litter, sort recycling, plant flowers, and keep parks and streets neat. They help animals, make places nice to play, and keep everyone healthy.

Why cleaning matters

  • Animals stay safe when trash is gone.
  • People don’t get sick from dirty places.
  • Places look beautiful and make people smile.

Step-by-step: What your crew can do

  1. Ask an adult first. Always tell a grown-up and have them help plan.
  2. Get ready. Put on gloves, wear bright clothes, and bring a grown-up, a trash bag, and a water bottle.
  3. Look for trash you can pick up. Pick up small pieces like paper, bottles, or cans. Use tongs if you have them.
  4. Sort the items. Put recyclables (paper, plastic bottles, cans) in one bag and trash in another. Your adult will tell you what goes where.
  5. Plant or water flowers. If you have permission, help water plants to make the city greener.
  6. Finish and wash up. Throw the trash bags where the grown-up says, take off gloves, and wash your hands well.

Safety Rules

  • Never pick up sharp things (broken glass, needles). Tell an adult.
  • Always stay with your grown-up.
  • Wear gloves and closed shoes.
  • Don’t touch your face while picking up trash; wash hands afterward.

Crew Checklist (bring these)

  • Gloves (kids’ size)
  • Trash bags and a small bag for recyclables
  • Tongs or a grabber (if you can)
  • Water bottle and sun hat
  • Sticker or chart to track your good work

Fun Games to Try

  • Who finds the most recyclables in 5 minutes?
  • Color hunt: find something red, blue, and green (then pick them up!).
  • Make a sticker chart: one sticker for every bag of trash collected.

What Happens to the Trash?

The grown-ups take trash to a big truck. Recyclables go to a place where they become new things. Compost (food scraps) can turn into soil for plants.

Sleepy City Clean-Up Song (short)

Sing to a happy tune: "Wake up, sleepy city, we will make you bright! Pick up, sweep up, make it clean and right!"

Your Clean-Up Pledge

Say this with your crew: "I promise to help keep Sleepy City clean. I will ask an adult, pick up litter safely, and be kind to people and animals."

Great job, little helper! Every small thing you do makes Sleepy City wake up smiling. Ready to be on the crew?
