Let's make the sentence easier to understand and more fun for a 7-year-old. We can change tricky words and make the sentence sound clearer.
Words we changed:
- rooster — stays the same (a farm bird that crows)
- wakes — can become "wakes up" or "wakes" with a little extra sound
- sleepy farm dwellers — changed to "sleepy animals" or "everyone on the farm" so it is easier to understand
Simple rephrase options (pick one you like):
- The rooster crows every morning and wakes up the sleepy animals on the farm.
- Every morning the rooster wakes up the animals on the farm.
- The rooster's loud "cock-a-doodle-doo" wakes everyone on the farm.
- At dawn, the rooster crows and the farm wakes up.
- The rooster wakes the sleepy animals every morning.
How to choose: If you want it short, pick option 2 or 5. If you want it playful, pick option 3. If you want a gentle, story-like line, pick option 4.
Try this activity: Pick your favorite sentence and draw a picture of the rooster waking the animals. Then say the sentence out loud with the picture.
