Hi! Let's learn about graphs
A graph is a picture that shows how many things there are. It helps us see and compare numbers quickly.
Step 1: Pick something to count
Choose things you like. For example: cars, dolls, and blocks.
Step 2: Count each group
- Cars: 3
- Dolls: 2
- Blocks: 4
Step 3: Make a simple bar graph (use paper and crayons or stickers)
- Draw three little boxes or columns side by side.
- Put 3 stickers in the first box for cars, 2 stickers in the second for dolls, and 4 stickers in the third for blocks.
- Now the tallest column is blocks, the middle is cars, and the shortest is dolls.
Looks like this using emoji as stickers:
- Cars: 🟥🟥🟥
- Dolls: 🟦🟦
- Blocks: 🟩🟩🟩🟩
What each part means
- The labels (Cars, Dolls, Blocks) tell what we counted.
- The stickers or squares show how many of each thing there are.
- The taller the column, the more there are.
Try it!
Ask a grown-up: pick things to count (like fruits or crayons). Use stickers, buttons, or draw dots to make your own graph. What would you like to graph today?
