Hi! An echidna's nose is like a little bug-finder.
1. The echidna pokes its long nose into the dirt. It looks for tiny wiggles — little movements made by ants and other bugs.
2. Inside the nose are special tiny sensors (like super tiny fingers) that can feel those wiggles and tiny electric tickles from the bugs. The echidna can tell where the bug is even if it cannot see it.
3. When it finds a wiggle, the echidna uses its long sticky tongue to lick up the bug. Yum!
Fun game: Ask a grown-up to hide a small toy under a blanket. Close your eyes and try to find it by feeling the blanket like an echidna feels for wiggles.
Remember: echidnas are wild animals — it’s best to watch them from far away and never touch them without a grown-up.
