Hello! Let’s clean the bathroom step by step

This checklist is made for a 10-year-old. Ask an adult to help with strong cleaners, the toilet, or anything electrical. Work safely, take breaks, and make it fun!

Supplies (ask an adult before using):

  • Gloves (rubber or disposable)
  • All-purpose cleaner or gentle bathroom cleaner (or white vinegar + water mix)
  • Toilet cleaner (adult help recommended)
  • Glass cleaner or vinegar for mirror
  • Bucket with warm water
  • Sponge, scrub brush, or old toothbrush
  • Microfiber cloths or paper towels
  • Mop or a floor cloth and broom
  • Trash bag

Safety rules:

  • Always tell an adult you’re cleaning and ask for help with strong cleaners.
  • Never mix cleaning products (especially bleach + vinegar).
  • Open a window or run the fan for fresh air.
  • Wear gloves so your hands stay safe and dry.

Step-by-step checklist

  1. Prep (2–3 minutes)
    • Put on gloves.
    • Open the window or turn on the fan.
    • Pick up toys, towels, bath mats, toothbrush, and trash. Put dirty towels in laundry. Put small items on the counter in a box so they don’t get wet.
  2. Dust and sweep (2–3 minutes)
    • Dust light fixtures, shelves, and the top of the toilet tank with a cloth.
    • Sweep the floor to remove hair and dust.
  3. Apply cleaner to tub/shower and toilet (3 minutes)
    • Spray tub and shower walls with cleaner. Let it sit a few minutes to loosen soap scum.
    • Ask an adult to put toilet cleaner in the bowl and scrub if needed.
  4. Clean sink and countertop (3–5 minutes)
    • Spray the sink and countertop with cleaner. Scrub the sink, faucet, and drain area with a sponge or old toothbrush.
    • Rinse with water and wipe dry with a cloth so it shines.
  5. Clean mirrors (1–2 minutes)
    • Spray glass cleaner or vinegar solution on the mirror and wipe with a microfiber cloth or paper towel until it’s streak-free.
  6. Scrub tub and shower (5–7 minutes)
    • Use a scrub brush or sponge to clean the tub and shower walls. Use an old toothbrush for grout or corners.
    • Rinse everything with water when done.
  7. Wipe surfaces and fixtures (3 minutes)
    • Wipe light switches, door handles, and the outside of the toilet tank and seat with a cloth and cleaner.
  8. Clean the floor (5 minutes)
    • Mop the floor or wipe with a wet cloth, starting from the far corner and moving toward the door so you don’t step on cleaned areas.
  9. Final touches (2–3 minutes)
    • Replace clean towels, bath mat, and return items to their places.
    • Empty the trash bag and replace the liner.
    • Give the room a quick look-over. Smile — you did it!

Quick stain tips

  • Toothpaste or soap scum: scrub with a sponge and warm water.
  • Mildew in grout: ask an adult to use a stronger cleaner or a paste of baking soda + water, scrub, then rinse.
  • Hard water spots on faucets: rub with vinegar on a cloth, rinse, and dry.

Timing and routine

This whole job usually takes 20–30 minutes. Do a quick tidy 1–2 times a week and a deeper clean once a week.

Make it fun

  • Put on music or a short playlist.
  • Set a timer and challenge yourself to finish a few steps before it rings.
  • Ask an adult to give a small reward when you finish—like a sticker or extra reading time.

If you want, I can make a printable checklist you can carry into the bathroom. Want that?
