Where do foxes live?
Foxes live all over the world. Different kinds of foxes like different places.
- Forests: Many foxes live in woods with lots of trees.
- Fields and meadows: Open grassy places where they can hunt for mice.
- Mountains: Some foxes live high up where it is rocky and cool.
- Deserts: Certain foxes, like the fennec fox, live where it is dry and sandy.
- Cities and towns: Some foxes live near people, in parks, gardens, and under sheds.
Fox homes are usually called dens or earths. A den can be a hole in the ground, a space under tree roots, under a shed, or a hollow log. Mommy foxes sleep there and keep their babies safe.
Baby foxes are called kits (or pups). They stay in the den until they are big enough to go outside and learn to hunt with their parents.
Fun tip: Foxes are most active at dawn and dusk (early morning and evening). If you want to see one, look then, but always watch from far away—foxes are wild and should not be touched.
Short recap: Foxes live in forests, fields, mountains, deserts, and even cities. Their homes are dens (earths), and their babies are called kits.
